2. Right at Issue  Oregon stating that physician assisted suicide is legal.  John Ashcroft the Attorney General of Oregon stated this was illegal because of the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 (CSA).

3. Supreme Court Decision  Ruled in favor of Oregon 6-3 saying the CSA was intended to prevent doctors from engaging in illicit drug dealings not determining standard medical practice.

4. Effects of the Decision  This case determined that the states regulate physician assisted suicide and standard medical practice not the federal government.
