THE BEGINNING The ‘Big Bang’ is the beginning of the universe. Some people call it ‘The great radiance’ or ‘The beginning of everything’. The ‘Big Bang’ starts from a very small object made of matter. But suddenly it explodes! Millions of pieces start flying all over the space. And from these pieces… galaxies, stars an planets are created. Draw the universe before the ‘Big Bang’. In groups think of 4 different names for the ‘Big Bang’. READ THINK AND WRITE Draw the universe after the ‘Big Bang’.

CELESTIAL BODIES The ______ is the biggest star in the Solar system. Planets, stars and satellites are ________________. _________________ do not produce light and heat. The Earth is a _______________. Stars are big balls of __________ and produce light and heat. The Moon is the Earth’s ________________. Celestial bodyExample Star______________ Planet______________ Satellite______________ Write the name of the celestial bodies and order them in the next table. LOOK, THINK AND WRITE READ AND WRITE INVESTIGATE!!! Jupiter is a special planet because it has got many satellites. Do you know how many? ANSWER: Jupiter has got_________ satellites.

DAY AND NIGHT ROTATION: Movement of the Earth around itself by its own axis, producing day and night. READ AND HIGHLIGHT INVESTIGATE!!! 1-. How long does the Earth take to rotate around itself? ANSWER:The Earth takes __________________ to rotate around itself. 2-. The axis is tilted on one side. What´s the angle of the axis? ANSWER:The axis is tilted at a __________ º. 3-. If in Australia is day time, what would it be like in Spain? ANSWER: In Spain it would be __________. THE SEASONS LISTEN, TAKE NOTES AND COMPLETE Identify the season and write about its features. The Earth not only rotates around its own axis but it also rotates around the Sun. The revolution is the orbit of the Earth around the Sun, producing the seasons. It takes 365 days and 6 hours, which is one year. READ AND HIGHLIGHT Season:____________________ Features:__________________ _________________________ _________________________ _________________________ Season:____________________ Features:__________________ _________________________ _________________________ _________________________ Season:____________________ Features:__________________ _________________________ _________________________ _________________________ Season:____________________ Features:__________________ _________________________ _________________________ _________________________

7 ASSESSMENT TEST YOURSELF 1-. Rotation is… the movement of the Earth around the Sun. the movement of the axis around the Earth. the movement of the Earth around its own axis. 2-. The seasons are… the resulting of the rotation movement. the resulting of the revolution movement. the resulting of the axis movement around itself. 3-. The day and night… are caused by the heat of the Sun when rotating. are caused by the heat of the axis when rotating. are spring, summer, autumn and winter. READ AND WRITE Describe what is a celestial body with your own words. ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ Paint and colour only the celestial bodies. WHAT´S MY NAME? 1-. I´m a big star, the most important one in the Solar system. My name is the _________. 2-. I´m the third planet in the Solar system. I like spinning around myself all day long… My name is the_____________.

1) It´s the layer where we live. 2) In this layer the temperatures can go extremely hot. 3) It´s the last layer in the atmosphere. 4) In this layer the meteors burn up upon entry. 5) Weather balloons go as high as this layer. 6) Airplanes fly in this layer. OUTSIDE THE EARTH: THE ATMOSPHERE What is the atmosphere? The earth is surrounded by a layer of gases called the atmosphere. planet is made up of three primary gases. These gases are oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. The greenhouse effect. The atmosphere protects the Earth like a big blanket. It absorbs the heat from the sun and keeps the heat inside the atmosphere helping the Earth to stay warm. So we don't get too cold at night and too hot during the day. The greenhouse effect. INSIDE THE EARTH SOLID WATER WEIGHT (Kg, g…) HYPOTHESISRESULTS The geosphere is the solid portion of Earth and it´s made up of layers: 1)THE CORE is very hot and made up of the heavy elements of Nickel and Iron. There are two cores: the inner core and the outer core. 2) THE MANTLE is made of a squishy substance something like wet modeling clay. 3) THE CRUST is a very thin layer in only 5 - 25 miles deep. The life takes place in this layer. READ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ INVESTIGATE!!! Earthquakes and tsunamis are quite related. What´s there under our feet provoking them?
