1 NYAM’s Grey Literature Report : How Social Networking Adds Value for Users Danielle Aloia, Ying Jia, Trina Keith, Lisa Genoese, and Elizabeth Taylor The New York Academy of Medicine Library

2 Background Since 1999 the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) Library has been aggregating grey literature, through print and web, in health policy, public health, health of vulnerable and special populations, global health, and aging. The focus is on research materials, not consumer health information. The Grey Literature Report (www.greylit.org) is produced bimonthly by the NYAM Library alerting readers to current grey literature publications. In addition to the newly developed database, all resources are added and indexed in the Online Catalog.www.greylit.org

3 New Database Features Administration Module: Material collection Material cataloging Collaboration between NYAM team and external contributors Public Interface: Search limits Tag items with thumbs up or down Make comments

4 Content Collectors collect materials from over 800 sources Collectors add links and titles to identified reports Collector The Database Manager then reviews the Content Collectors’ items and updates the item status from Collected to Reviewed— Accepted, Followup, or Denied Reviewer Catalogers claim the Reviewed— Accepted items from the module by selecting the items When items are cataloged the ID numbers are matched up to the records and tagged as cataloged in the administration module Cataloger Administrative Module Workflow
