English IV MSL/ Common Exams

Purpose of the Assessments They replace locally developed assessments. Common Exam scores will count as final exam grades, 25% of final grade.

Types of questions The total test: Thirty-three to thirty-seven multiple-choice items Three to four constructed response items Four reading passages: Two literature Two informational texts (History/Social Studies or Science). Up to ten multiple-choice items and up to two constructed response items per passage Constructed response items: Short answer CR questions Standard 9 (draw evidence from sources) Answered in a paragraph or less Worth 2 points each Single extended response question Standards 1(write arguments), 4 (clear, coherent writing), and 9 (draw evidence from sources) Answered in three paragraphs Worth up to 4 points

Test Administration Administration Time General instructions 4 minutes General instructions 4 minutes Test 40 minutes Test 40 minutes Break 2 minutes Break 2 minutes Test 40 minutes Test 40 minutes A teacher, who is not the teacher of record, will administer the test. Two teachers of the same content/course tested will score the short answer responses. Identification of those scorers is a school based decision.
