3 A centre of expertise in digital information managementwww.ukoln.ac.uk UK University Entry Points Survey of UK University entry points: Published in Ariadne in October 2002 – see Made use of Bobby accessibility tool Analysed 162 University entry points Findings: Only 4 appeared to be compliant with WAI AA compliant (0 P1 or P2 errors) 70 entry points appeared to provide A compliance with no P1 errors

9 A centre of expertise in digital information managementwww.ukoln.ac.uk Accessibility Testing Tools How can we test accessibility of Web pages: Automated Approaches Use of tools such as Bobby, WAVE, LIFT, etc. Often used for testing individual pages, but bulk testing tools also available Won’t spot all possible errors (e.g. can spot missing ALT tags, but not meaningless ones) Manual Approaches Testing with users Can spot problems which tools won’t find Can be expensive
