Haiti occupies the lower western part of the Island of Hispaniola, in the greater Antillean Archipelago. It shares the island with the Dominican Republic.

Soccer is the most popular sport in Haiti. The leagues are played on a local level. Basketball is growing in popularity.

The government of Haiti is a semi- presidential republic, a multiparty system wherein the President of Haiti is head of state elected directly by popular elections. The Prime Minister acts as head of government and is appointed by the President, chosen from the majority party in the National Assembly. Executive power is exercised by the President and Prime Minister who together constitute the government. Haiti's is the only country in the Western Hemisphere to undergo a successful slave revolution, but a long history of oppression by dictators – including Francois Duvalier and his son Jean –Claude Duvalier – has markedly affected the nation. France and the United States have repeatedly intervened in Haitian politics since the country's founding, sometimes at the request of one party or another.

Wyclef Jean: A Haitian musician, record producer, and politician.

What I like most about Haiti is that they were the first to revolt and win against the Europeans in the fight of slavery. They won their independence in 1804.
