ELIMINATION on a 3x3 1. Line up equations. 2. Perform “elimination” TWICE on the SAME variable using two DIFFERENT pairs of equations. 3. With the 2 equations that were produced from step #2, do elimination one final time. 4. Substitute the numeric value you obtain from step #3 into EITHER OF THE 2 VARIABLE equations to find the second value. 5. Finally, substitute the 2 numeric values you now have into ANY of the original equations. Answer is an ordered triple. (x, y, z)

Substitution on a 3x3 AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! Only do substitution when you have a 3x2x1…like…. 2x + 3y – 5z = 3 y + z = -1 y = 4
