Ranging Codes for 16e System The binary ranging codes are subsequences of pseudonoise sequence at the output of PRBS generator –The length of each ranging code is 144 bits –The number of available codes is 256 The ranging allocation is subdivided into slots of 6 subchannels by 3 OFDMA symbols Ranging codes are grouped into 4 code sets –Initial Ranging code set –Bandwidth Request code set –Periodic Ranging code set –Handover Ranging code set

Ranging Codes for Femtocell Due to the number of MSs in femtocell is ten or less (  10) and the coverage area is of tens meters, the scale of resources for ranging in femtocell should be different from macrocell. In a 16m femtocell, –the ranging code length should be shorter than 16e system –the number of available ranging codes in femtocell should be less than 16e system –the UL resource unit for ranging should be smaller than 16e system

Ranging Codes Generation The ranging code generator for femtocell may be the same as the PRBS generator used in macrocell under a certain interference level

Ranging Parameter Set Broadcasting The 16m BS shall periodically broadcast the following information on SBCH, –the index of used ranging code generator –the ranging code length –the number of available ranging codes –the ranging code sets –the UL resource unit and structure for ranging

Proposed Text [Add the following section 17.x “Ranging Parameter Set”] 17.x Ranging Parameter Set In order to optimize the resource used for ranging in femtocell, ranging parameter set composed of the index of ranging code generator, the ranging code length, the number of available ranging codes, the ranging code sets and the resource unit and structure for ranging should be adjusted and broadcasted by femto BS periodically.
