Simplifying Rational Exponents We are going to combine our rules of exponents (2.1) with our rational exponents (2.2)! There is nothing new in this lesson, but you have to be able to add, subtract, and multiply fractions.

Adding and Subtracting Fractions The common denominator is the LCM of 4 and 6 which is 12. So we have to write each fraction with denominator of 12.
