Subterranean: (page 70) Adjective A subterranean river or tunnel is under the ground. ■ EG: ⇒ The city has 9 miles of subterranean passages.

Unbeknown: (page 71) Adjective/forms a prepositional phrase If something happens unbeknownst to you or unbeknown to you, you do not know about it. ■ EG: ⇒ Unbeknownst to her father, she began taking dancing lessons.

Antiquity: (page 80) Noun Antiquity is the distant past, especially the time of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. ■ EG: ⇒...famous monuments of classical antiquity.

sorrel: (page 97) Noun Sorrel is a plant whose leaves have a sharp taste and are sometimes used in salads and sauces. EG: Suzie Creamcheese hated it when her mom put sorrel in the salads.
