NON-LINEAR POWERPOINT MEAN AND MODE Introduction Lesson Quiz
3
INTRODUCTION LEARNING OBJECTIVE: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE MEAN AND MODE IN ANY NUMBER SET THEY WILL ENCOUNTER. GRADE 6 LEARNING STANDARD: 5.C. : GIVING QUANTITATIVE MEASURES OF CENTER (MEDIAN, MODE, OR MEAN) AND VARIABILITY (INTERQUARTILE RANGE AND/OR MEAN ABSOLUTE DEVIATION), AS WELL AS DESCRIBING ANY OVERALL PATTERN AND ANY STRIKING DEVIATIONS FROM THE OVERALL PATTERN WITH REFERENCE TO THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THE DATA WERE GATHERED. INFORMATION:. BY LEARNING HOW TO FIND MEAN AND MODE, STUDENTS WILL GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO SUMMARIZE NUMERICAL DATA SETS IN RELATION TO THEIR CONTEXT.

DIRECTION OF LESSON IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATE THROUGH THE LESSON, STUDENTS MUST FIRST READ THE SLIDES PRESENTED TO THEM. AFTER READING THE SLIDE AT HAND, THERE WILL BE TWO NAVIGATION BUTTONS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SLIDE. THE ONE ON THE RIGHT WILL DIRECT YOU TO THE NEXT SLIDE, AND THE ONE ON THE LEFT WILL DIRECT YOU BACK TO THE PREVIOUS SLIDE. BOTH NAVIGATION BUTTONS CAN BE FOUND ON THE BOTTOM OF EACH SLIDE. LESSON PART ONE Let’s learn how to find the MEAN of a set of numbers! First, we need to put the number set in order from least to greatest! 11,12,12,15,19,21,21,22, 23
6
LESSON PART TWO Now that we have the number set in order, we can start the first step for finding the MEAN! First, you must add all of the units together. Good Job! 156 is the sum of all the numbers! Now, we will take 156 and divide it by the total amount of numbers in the number set, which is 9. Awesome! You have successfully found that 17.33 is the MEAN of the number set!
7
LESSON PART 3 What is the MEAN? MEAN is also known as the average number of a number set. It is a Measure of Central Tendency! Now let’s move on to another measure of central tendency. MODE! For this measurement we will use the same number set that we used to find median. 11,12,12,15,19,21,21,22,23.
8
LESSON PART 4 To find the MODE of a number set, you simply have to count which number is used the most! Give it a try with your partner! Raise your hand when you find the correct answer!
9
LESSON PART 5 I can see that some of you say the MODE is 11, and some of you say it is 21. Who is right? 21 or 11 are both incorrect. Their isn’t a number used more in the number set than all of the other numbers; therefor, this number set does not have a MODE.
10
LESSON PART 6 WHAT IS THE PURPOSE FOR MEAN AND MODE? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE FOR MEAN AND MODE? Both aspects of a number set help you indicate the direct middle of the number set. Sometimes it is useful to know what number is more likely to appear in a number ser, and these two aspects do just that. These aspects of a number set are known as measures of central tendency. There is another measure of central tendency, but we will go over that in a future lesson.
11
END OF THE LESSON! CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE FINISHED THE MEAN AND MODE LESSON. YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY LEARNED HOW TO FIND TWO MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY! CONGRATULATIONS!
