WHAT IS A SOLAR SYSTEM? ~ A solar system consists of a sun at the center and all of the planets, moons, & asteroids that are held close to it by gravity. ~OUR solar system is mainly made up of: -our sun (at the center) - four small INNER PLANETS (closest to the sun) -an ASTEROID BELT -four LARGE OUTER PLANETS (farthest from the sun) -other objects, like dwarf planets & comets ~ Our solar system is located in the Milky Way Galaxy. ~ There are many other solar systems in the Milky Way Galaxy, all with their own planets, orbiting their own suns! ~ And, there are HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of galaxies in the universe!
