3. Ten facts Every Parent Should Know About NCLB 1. NCLB gives schools more money. 2. NCLB holds schools accountable for results. 3. NCLB gives states and cities more control and flexibility to use resources where they are needed the most. 4. NCLB gives parents report cards. 5. NCLB focuses on teaching methods that have been proven to work.

NCLB may let you transfer your child to a better public school if the state says the school your child attends needs to improve. 9. NCLB requires reading and math testing in grades 3 through 8 each year.

5. Title I--Part A Is a federally funded educational grant. Provides supplemental funds to school districts to assist schools with high concentrations of poverty to meet school goals. Assists with building capacity of parents and teachers. Encourages parents to be involved in their child’s education.

6. Title I Funding District allocates funds to each qualifying school based on the number of eligible students for free/reduced priced meals. MES – 68% MMS – 56% MHS – 58% 61% district wide

7. Title I Programs MES is a Title I schoolwide school. We serve ALL students in the school, but focus on the lowest achieving. All staff, resources and classes are part of the overall schoolwide program

8. We use these funds: Two class-size reduction teachers. One intervention teacher/two paraprofessionals. (RTI) Additional training for school staff. A variety of teaching methods/materials.

9. Title IIA & IID Title IIA--High Quality Professional Development Recruitment & Retention One class-size reduction teacher Title IID--Enhancing Education through Technology

10. Title III Title III-English Language Learners This program provides materials to help alleviate barriers related to ELL status. Students whose native language is not English.

11. Title IV--Part A Safe and Drug-Free Schools Violence Prevention & Conflict Resolution Instructional Materials School Resource Officers Professional Development

12. Title VI—Part B Rural Education Initiatives Rural & Low-Income School Program Professional Development Instructional Materials/Software

13. Title X Education for Homeless Children and Youth Provides school supplies, personal hygiene items, etc. to eligible students.
