H OME He lived in a town named Sighet in Transylvania (Northern Romania – then ruled by Hungary) This is the house Wiesel was born in, and he lived there until he was 15.

15,500 OF THE 15,500 JEWS DEPORTED FROM SIGHET WITH WIESEL IN 1944, 2,000 ONLY 2,000 RETURNED AFTER THE WAR.

F AMILY Wiesel was born to his father, Shlomo and mother, Sarah Frig Wiesel. Elie is the third of four children He has two older sisters, Hilda, the oldest, and Bea, the second oldest His little sister’s name is Tzipora
