2. Today’s Goal Teachers will develop a better understanding of the trajectory of fraction concepts K-5 by doing the math and reading the Common Core Progressions document on fractions.

3. Private Reasoning Time Work on questions 1-4 and developing a generalization Be ready to share in about 7 minutes

4. Go-Around All Start with the person sitting closest to the door. Share all of your thinking and visual diagrams on questions 1-4.

5. Processing Publicly At your tables, take a moment and discuss: How do the visual models justify which fraction is larger/smaller?

6. Go-Around-One 1.Each person shares their generalizations. 2.Others can ask clarifying questions between speakers. 3.Repeat until everyone in the group has shared their generalizations. 4.After everyone has shared, come to consensus on a generalizations. Justify it. 5.Create a poster to represent your groups thinking.

7. Connections Read Generalizing section Read Standards for Mathematical Practice #7 & # 8 Be ready to discuss: What connections do you see between the act of generalizing and the development of the mathematical practices?

8. Gallery Walk Walk around to each poster as a table group Discuss as a table group: How are the generalizations similar/different?
