Positions and Titles Interviewer My current title is Records Management Technician Interviewees Renee Ross – Manager of Records, Documents and Information Management Carole Grono – Director of Process Support for the Mid- America Division

Responsibilities Renee Ross Ensures that the Process Support Department is running smoothly Meet deadlines, give guidance, monitor day-to-day functions, keep up-to-date communications and support supervisors Carole Grono Oversees Document Control, Document Review, Data Entry, Records Management, and Suspect Product Management in the 8 Mid-America Division regions

CLO? Does the American Red Cross Biomedical Services have a CLO (Chief Learning Officer)? No official CLO but there is someone that is accountable for learning and training at a high level. Referred to another staff member that would have more information on who that person is. As a generalized question, what are our corporate goals for learning? Referred to Education Policy

Education Policy Defines the training and performance system. Provides the skills and knowledge required to achieve the goals of the Biomedical Services. The Red Cross believes that staff who are trained for their assigned roles and responsibilities are critical to the successful delivery of high quality products and services. Ongoing training and development opportunities. An educated workforce Staff must complete training and demonstrate competency before permitted to perform independently. Evaluates skills and competencies on a regular basis.

Past Learning Experiences Donor Suitability departments consolidated into the DCSC Huge consolidation project. New staff replacing hundreds of trained/seasoned/experienced staff throughout the country. Unfamiliar or unsure about procedures. Responsibilities of the DCSC and the regions not clearly defined. Much human capital and experience lost.

Present Learning Experiences Problems per month and per year. Past, present, and future endeavor. Problem reduction Problems have been “Functionalized” Staff from any region can work on Problem Management problems for other regions One-on-one monthly discussions, ePoE employee Pursuit of Excellence was developed for those that were having difficulty and those that should be rewarded. Getting ahead of the problems

Present Learning Experiences R2 New computer conversion for labeling, to reduce paperwork, decrease registration and review issues, and the numerous exchanging of hands. Helped to make hospital systems compatible with labeling. R2 learning Conversion is being introduced region by region. Too much work which led to increase staffing. Technical issues which are being resolved with each update.

Future Learning Experiences BioArch and Standardization DCSC, problem management, and R2 are a part of these future goals BioArch will replace the National Blood Computer System (NBCS) to further standardize the regions and divisions Standardization across the country is the goal. The DCSC, R2, and problem management have been good experiences to understand how the future transitions need to be monitored and mended along the way.

Additional learning experiences Radix to Papervision Save money in digital storage and unite the division into one document retrieval database. Network of recipient communication Inspirational stories that get back to us from folks that receive life saving transfusions from our products. Make us strive to continue to make products and our systems better and safer.
