Quality assurance NHS England require FOM to – Report appraisal statistics quarterly – Provide a copy of the annual Board report – Provide a letter annually from the CEO the FOM Board During the 2012-2017 revalidation cycle NHS England will undertake an end-to-end QA review of each designated body – FOM commissioned an independent QA review through MIAD Completed during Spring 2015

How are things going? Quality of the submitted evidence is improving – Appraisal portfolios FOM/SOM checklist – Supporting evidence – Appraisal outputs But – Doctors are often leaving colleague and patient feedback and QI very late Should ideally be complete ahead of last appraisal prior to revalidation to enable discussion with appraiser

What next? Faculty RO is now part of the GMC RO Reference Group providing an opportunity to influence revalidation framework in the light of our practice Faculty led occupational health RO network working well – 11 members – Recognised by NHS England as a specialty network Further network established of Faculty ROs – Occupational Medicine – Public Health – Pharmaceutical Medicine – Homoeopathy – Medical Leadership and Management

What next? Faculty led the development of an occupational medicine relevant colleague feedback tool in 2012-2014 and this is working well Recognise the need for a modified patient feedback tool – EOPH (Education for Occupational and Public Health) tool in final stages of development Anticipate launch late 2015/early 2016

The numbers The majority of doctors revalidate 2013-2016 FOM is on schedule – 351 doctors have a prescribed connection with the FOM – To date 264 positive revalidation recommendations have been made 27 deferrals (some deferred more than once) – FOM rate 10.2% (national average 16.6%) o 13 have been revalidated o 14 still to be awaiting revalidation – 153 doctors scheduled to revalidate in 2015 All revalidation recommendations have been made until end of September – 114 doctors revalidated year to date 39 doctors scheduled to revalidate between Oct – Dec 2015 – 31 doctors are scheduled to revalidate between Jan – Mar 2016
