Organic compounds of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen in a ratio of about one carbon atom, two hydrogen atoms to one oxygen atom.

A monosaccaride is the monomer of a carbohydrate. The chemical formula for it is CH 2 ON3-8.
4
1) A monosaccharide is a monomer of a carbohydrate (CH2O) 3-8. Examples are, fructose, galactose, and glucose. 2) A disaccharide is 2 monosaccharides combined. An example is sucrose. 3) A polysaccharide is 3 or more monosaccharides combine.
5
Carbohydrates, are used as energy for animals. Carbohydrates are stored in the liver and muscles in animals for quick use of energy.
6
Plants store glucose molecules in the form of polysaccharide starch. Starch molecules have two basic forms of highly branched chains that are similar to glyocogen and long, coiled unbranched chains. Plants also make a large polysaccharide called cellulose. Cellulose gives the strength and rigidity to plant cells, which, makes up about 50% of wood.
