They have been given Latin names based on their shape, direction, location, number of origins, function, or the bones to which they are attached.

Cardiac Muscle Cardiac Muscle is only found in the heart. It is involuntary; this means that it cannot be controlled at will.

Smooth Muscle Smooth Muscle- is found in the walls of the stomach and intestines and is also involuntary.

Skeletal Muscle Skeletal muscles are attached to and move the bones of the skeleton. Most skeletal muscles are voluntary and can be moved at will.

What are tendons? Tendons attach bones to joints
