3 Job Description and Work Environment A pipefitter, or also called a steamfitter, is a tradesperson trained in organizing, assembling, creating, maintaining, and repairing piping systems which carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating or cooling. Pipefitters work indoors and outdoors at dangerous and physically demanding tasks that sometimes requires climbing. There is a risk of injury for pipefitters from working with power tools and heavy equipment.

4 Required Education A high school diploma is required.

5 Where this Education is Offered Pipefitting courses are offered at: Keyin College (offered at Burin and Carbonear)- 34 week program Academy Canada (offered at St. John’s)- 34 week program College of the North Atlantic (offered at Clarenville)- 9 month program

6 Job Outlook Employment and the demand for pipefitters is expected to grow 21% from 2012- 2022. This means that it will be easy to find job opportunities for pipefitters in the coming years.
