Born 1916-Argentina Died 1983-Geneva, Switzerland By age 30 he had composed a significant number of compositions for solo instruments, choir, orchestra, and film. One of the most influential composers in Argentina.

Studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Argentina Spent one year in the U.S. on a Guggenheim Fellowship, where he studied with Aaron Copland

He grouped his music into three periods- Objective Nationalism, Subjective Nationalism, & Neo-expressionism. Objective Nationalism incorporates Argentine folk themes in a straight forward manner, while the later periods integrate those elements in a more abstract form. Influenced by Copland, Stravinsky, and Bartok
