Adding and Subtracting fractions Logan Chappell

Content Area: Mathematics Grade Level: 4 th Summary: The purpose of this PowerPoint is to show how to demonstrate like fractions with the same denominator and also different denominators. Also simply add or subtract the sum of the problem. Learning Objective: Given a equation the student will accurately add or subtract them together, with 100% accuracy. Content Standard: Numbers and fractions. Accomplishment: To have a understanding about adding and subtracting fractions. 3 Adding Fractions

When adding fractions, you have to make sure the denominators are the same. Both of the bottom numbers are 5. So in that case just add the two top numbers up and bring down the five. The answer would be 4/5.

Example

Subtracting Fractions with different denominators

Subtracting with different denominators Before you can subtract the fractions with different denominators, you must first find equivalent fractions with the same denominator, Secondly, find the smallest multiple of both numbers also called the LCM Rewrite the fraction with the LCM as the denominator. And that will be your answer

Example

Try this quiz 1..2. 3\7 + 6\7

Conclusion We have reviewed adding fractions with the same denominator. Also subtracting with different denominators. Having to find the LCM of the fraction. Keep practicing fractions and they will be so easy to you that you can do them in a blink of a eye.
