AT THE END OF THIS LESSON YOU WILL BE ABLE TO: UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BAR, LINE, AND CIRCLE GRAPHS. DETERMINE WHICH TYPE OF GRAPH TO USE DEPENDING ON THE DATA. Lesson 8: Graphs
2
Frequency Table A frequency table is used to count how often certain events occur. It is often used to tabulate data before putting the data into another type of graph. Note: sometimes a percent column is added
3
Bar Graphs Bar graphs are the most common types of graphs used to compare data. A bar graph has a vertical and a horizontal axis. These axes have names, the x axis and the y axis. X-axis – The horizontal axis on a graph. Hint:Think of laying flat on a table for an X-ray _____ Y-axis – The vertical axis on a graph.

Line Graphs Line graphs display trend lines, often showing how the amount of numbers of something changes over a period of time. To interpret information on line graphs, you must be able to locate a specific point on the graphs and identify the trend that the graph represents.

Opinion trends compiled from all national data polls in 2009
9
Circle Graph A circle graph displays percents out of a total or 100%. Beware! To read a circle graph you must not mistake the percents for the actual numbers. For example a pie chart that says 60% of people prefer chocolate ice cream does not mean that only 60 people prefer chocolate ice cream.
