Graphing Notes

All graphs must have: Title: must be specific Labels on each axis: must include a UNIT put unit in parentheses ( m )

Labels must identify the: Independent Variable: goes on the X axis This is the variable you control. (Ex: time in minutes or seconds)

Also identify the: Dependent Variable: goes on the Y axis This is the variable you cannot control, you only measure it. (Ex: growth in centimeters)

Each axis must have: Appropriate scale Figure out your range of data Make sure equal numbering on axis Number intervals on X and Y axis do not have to be the same

Types of Graphs Bar Graphs: Compare data that are unrelated.

Circle (Pie) Graphs: used for comparing percents

Line Graphs: Use to compare related variables (Ex: changes over time)
