3  America was going through the progressive period  Woodrow Wilson didn’t want the nation to get sidetracked by war  Woodrow Wilson's father was a minister  Therefore, he did not like the idea of war

4  Are these legitimate reasons for isolationism?  Does America really need to get involved in a European war?

5  Immigrants  felt sympathy, Irish saw opportunity for freedom  Socialists  saw this as a fight between European economies for resources and markets around the world  William Jennings Bryan  a pacifist, saw war as evil
