3. Event Summary On November 12, 2001 American Airlines Flight 587 crashed in to a New York neighborhood.

4. Accident Description The flight took off from John F. Kennedy International Airport, Jamaica, New York on November 12, 2001. When encountering turbulence the pilot franticly tried to free the plane from the turbulence by putting large amounts of pressure on the rudder. Shortly after take off the vertical stabilizer and rudder separated from the plane while encountering turbulence.
