3 CDFW Lands Summary: Wildlife Areas 110 wildlife areas = 707,071 acres Fish and Game Code Sections: 1525-1530, and 1745 Primary Purposes: Conservation of wildlife and habitats Compatible public uses (emphasis on hunting and fishing) 3

4 CDFW Lands Summary: Ecological Reserves 130 Ecological Reserves = 204,585 acres Fish and Game Code Sections 1580-1585, and 1745 Primary Purposes: Protection of rare wildlife, plants and habitats Environmental education and research 4

8 Discussions with Hunting Dog Constituents 32 people provided comments on dog training and/or trials Discussed at four Commission meetings from Dec. 2011 – June 2012 Seven meetings and/or conference calls from Dec. 2011 – June 2012 No reduction of number of areas, acreage or time were ever proposed 8

9 2012: Dog Training and Trials Outcomes 1. 1.Removed Special Use Permit requirement for group dog training 2. 2.Reduced cost and streamlined process for Special Use Permit for dog trials 3. 3.Revised the wording of many regulations 4. 4.Consideration of additional dog training areas during Phase 2 9

10 2013: Dog Training and Trials 2012 revisions retained in 2013 Exception: prices and payment process for all Special Use Permits revised Dec. 2013 constituent meetings Review proposed regulations Discuss Phase 2 of the update 10

11 Other Issues Liberty Island designation Consistency with the purpose of the acquisition Waterfowl hunting will continue Firearms Land regulations do not trump concealed carry rules No change in restrictions on BB guns, 10 gauge shotguns or shot shells in the field 11
