AIDA Thermal tests, 3 possibilities 1 st as previously discussed. N2 insulating volume, with N2 dewar providing cooled nitrogen for detectors Pros – inexpensive Cons - high cooling power required, may be difficult to accurately control detector temperature. Bottles, and dewars will have to be regularly refilled. Nitrogen insulated
10
AIDA 2 nd Option, replace N2 insulating volume with vacuum space. vacuum insulating volume, with N2 dewar providing cooled nitrogen for detectors, other options available Pros – lower cooling power required, N2 gas bottles not required accurate temperature control possible Cons – Likely another chamber will be required, 1mm wall aluminium to contain vacuum. – Need to check window strengths.

AIDA 3rd Option, 1mm rectangular can into vacuum chamber. Pass cold nitrogen up titanium pipes, rely on conduction to cool detectors. Pros – low cooling power required, N2 not required accurate temperature control possible. Likely to use different cooling techniques Cons – System not really designed for vacuum some checks need to made.
