3. What will we need to do before we can start? Decide what kind of programme you are going to make You will need to learn some technical requirements – the basics of a programme called Audacity You will need to create a programme schedule –time limits. For example, you could be making an explanation broadcast in English and only have two hours in total to write a script and record it!!

4. Before you start… Who are your audience going to be? Who are you trying to inform? Like writing, you need to draw the audience in. You need to make it exciting! Is it going to be dramatic? Perhaps it could be comedy! Who is going to present it? How many presenters are there going to be?

5. During the Recording… Are you going to have an advertisement break? Is there going to be music either at the beginning, middle or end of the broadcast?

6. Who’s in the team? To create a broadcast that is well planned, recorded and edited, you will need to be in a team. After all, you might be really good at planning but not so good at recording.

7. Don’t forget… It’s not just a question of turn the microphone on and record. You need to write a script, rehearse, record it, edit it, play it back and evaluate it. Keep the items in your broadcast short. This will keep the audience’s attention. Droning on will bore the audience.

8. Top Tips. Keep the microphone 10-12cm away from the speaker. Too close and it will distort; too far away and it not be clear. Speak clearly. Try not to record in a noisy room (difficult I know), background noise will be heard on your broadcast. Perhaps have an agreement whereby the class has a ‘silence on set’ time.
