What is a participle? A participle is a word formed from a verb that can function as part of a verb phrase.

Kinds of participles Present participle: A present participle is a verb that ends with –ing. Past participle: A past participle is a verb that ends with –ed.

Examples Present participle: The soccer players played a soccer game yesterday and won. The criminal robbed a bank the past week. Past participle: The girl is swimming in the pool. The man is playing basketball with his friends.

What is a regular and irregular verb? Regular verbs: They always end in –ed. Irregular verbs: The ending of the word always changes.
