Guided Reading Daily reading session One group reads with the teacher Group activities include silent reading, handwriting practice, a project box to read and a follow up activity from the guided reading session.

Individual Reading New colour system for banding of the books Children can change their books as long as their logs are signed by you The children can also bring library books home to share and read at home

Phonic Groups Daily Phonics Session 10 – 15 minutes each day Read, Write Inc Spelling scheme Read, Write Inc workbooks Three differentiated groups across the year group Weekly test on the phonic group (Fridays) Mnemonics for those tricky words

Supporting Children’s Learning A range of strategies used – within lessons in groups or individually or during small group work sessions outside of lesson time, supported by teachers, teaching assistants and parent/grandparent volunteers Ethos to develop all children by focused additional support Reading - comprehension, paired reading Writing Maths PSHE PE

Big Write Independent writing session Big write will take place every second to third Friday It will be linked to the unit we are doing and the type of writing In the session, we have music, biscuits and the children may bring in slippers to wear in a calm atmosphere for our writing time The following week, will learn to edit their own work

Big Write WALT, WILF and Self Assessment WALT: Write a character description based on a picture of Granny Puckett from the film Hoodwinked WILF: (What I’m looking for) Use of their senses – see, hear, smell, taste and touch Super sentence openers Adjectives (describing words) and adverbs (slowly, gently) Similes (like a….as a…) Connectives (and, but, so, because)

Learning Logs Children have their Learning Logs on their table throughout the school day. At the back of the Learning Logs are three coloured sheet which the children may use to self-assess their understanding of the lesson. This quickly allows the adult to identify any children who may need further support. The learning log has space for a record of the books children have read throughout the year. Please note daily reading at home in the diary section. We will endeavour to sign all Learning Logs on a Friday, please ensure that you sign the log on a Thursday evening.

PE Term 1 This term the focus will be football skills We have coaches from POSH Our follow up lesson will be linked to this Children need indoor PE kit as well as a warmer PE kit for outdoors Please ensure kits are named Trainers needed No ear-rings and we are not allowed to use tape

Communication and Parents Evenings 10 minute slots to discuss progress, levels and your child at school Written teacher comments for discussion Set children personal targets However any concerns please feel free to come in for a quiet chat If you cannot come in please write in log and make sure your child informs us Head teacher assembly notification by email
