13. LDS TM : FAQ Is LDS available on the AERO RACK model: NO, just DGM and GM Sealsafe Plus racks 10 and 9 rows high Is it possible to retrofit on existing DGM and GM racks: Yes, it is possible. By which working principle are the sensors able to detects a flooding since they are external to the cage? They generates an electromagnetic field that is influenced by the dielectric properties of the materials above it (cage, bedding, animals, water). A specific algorithm running in the brain manages the different information coming from these different sources. LDS algorithm: can I customize it ? Absolutely not ! Which is the magnitude of the electromagnetic field generated by the sensors? A negiglible electromagnetic field (talking about nanoTesla) is generated by the sensors with a very low power consumption (around 0,5 mA / 2 Watts each single sided racks). Preliminary animal studies indicated that this sensor has no impact on breeding and normal mouse activities. The level of electromagnetic field has been difficult detected by an independent EMC company. 13

14. LDS TM : FAQ 14 On which AHU is it possble to install/retrofit «the Brain»? Smart/Easy Flow, Sky Flow, Touch Slim Plus, HVAC integration. A software modification by the service may be required according to the AHU serial n. Is it enough to just order the racks equipped with LDS? No, it is always necessary to order also one «Brain» and its electrical plug for each AHU..without «the Brain» LDS cannot work. Is it possible to use LDS in studies involving diabetic animals? No, the system would not be able to discriminate between urine and water leakages How many times can a rack equipped with LDS sensors be autoclaved? Tecniplast’s warranty on LDS sensors is valid up to 10 washing + autoclaving cycles.
