WHAT TO DO IN A MEDICAL EMERGENCY THE THREE CS CHECK the condition of the person. CALL 911 CARE for the person until help arrives.

POLICE EMERGENCIES There are different police emergencies: In general call 911: a. if there is a crime in progress. b. if you see an accident where there are injuries. c. if you hear a burglar in your house. d. if someone is hurt as a result of a crime.

WHEN TO NOT CALL 911 It is important to only call 911 in a real emergency. Do not call: When there was a crime but it has already happened. Call the police to report it. When the neighbors are too noisy. Again, call the police to report the disturbance.

CAR ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES Move the car to the side of the road if it is safe to do so. Check situation, injuries etc. Call 911 Be prepared to show your driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. Get other car’s license plate number Get addresses and phone numbers of any witnesses.

CAR ACCIDENT WITH NO INJURIES Move cars to the side of the road if it is safe to do so. Exchange insurance information Exchange names, addresses and phone numbers. Get license plate number.

FIRE EMERGENCY If there is a fire in your house, leave your house immediately and call 911.

IF YOU ARE SLEEPING AND WAKE UP TO A FIRE Roll out of bed onto the floor; crawl to the door and put the back of your hand near the door. Do not open the door. If it is hot, crawl to a window and climb out or yell for help.

IF YOUR CLOTHES ARE ON FIRE STOP DROP ROLL Never run. If another person’s clothes are on fire push them to the floor, roll them back and forth until the fire is out. Then call 911 or go to emergency.

EARTHQUAKES If there is an earthquake the rule is: DUCK, COVER, HOLD until shaking stops. Get under a strong table or desk, in a doorway away from windows, bookcases and mirrors or anything else that could fall on you. If you are inside a store, don’t run to the exit. Stay away from shelves. Find a place to wait until shaking stops.

IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE IN AN EARTHQUAKE Get away from buildings, power lines, and trees if possible. If you are in a city surrounded by buildings, get in a doorway. If you are in your car, pull to the side of the road and stop. Do not get out of your car.

FLOOD Get to high ground immediately. If possible evacuate your house.

WHAT NOT TO DO IN A FLOOD Don’t walk or swim in flooded areas. Don’t drive in flooded areas.
