Gum By: Sean Helmer Taylor Erickson

Raise and extract resources Products used to make gum Some of the most common ingredients used in gum are gum base which include artificial latex Gum base is formed from natural resins like sorva and jelutong.

Process The process of making gum isn’t very complicated

Manufacturing Step 1: -- The gum base ingredients are melted together and filtered. Step 2: -- Powdered sugar, sugar syrup, and flavoring and the other ingredients are slowly added to the gum base until the warm mix thickens. Step 3: -- Machines are used to blend, smooth and form the gum. Step 4: -- When it’s time for the gum to be shaped. Gum can be flattened and cut into sticks, or squeezed into a rope shape and cut into chunks, or molded into shapes and candy coated. Step 5: -- After the gum is cut or molded into the appropriate shape, it is lightly sprinkled with sweetener to keep it from sticking to machinery or packaging. Step 6: -- In a carefully temperature controlled room, the gum is cooled for up to 48 hours. This allows the gum to set. Step 7: -- If the gum is candy coated, like most gum balls or pellet gum, it is sprayed with liquid sweetener, allowed to dry and then sprayed again. This process is repeated several times until the candy shell reaches the proper thickness. Step 8: -- High speed machines wrap and package the gum in air wrappers. This ensures the gum is fresh and soft when you open the pack.

Use Depending on the sugar content gum can hold its flavor from any where to two to sixty minuets. Bubble gum usually doesn’t last long because the sugar is absorbed by the chewer. Sugarless gum is the way to go if you want long lasting flavor. Surprisingly enough, gum can be used as a sort of leisure for sum people. Bubble gum is best used to blow bubbles with.

Dispose Gum is not biodegradable because it has a gum base. This base does not biodegrade because its synthetic. If you swallow gum it will take 5 years for your digestive system to get rid of it.

How to improve gum Gum can be improved by making the base with natural ingredients so it can biodegrade. This might effect flavor and length of time it takes to improve but it would be eco- friendly.

Gum in the future. Gum looks to having a bright future because not only is it very popular, but it has been scientifically proven to help people focus and relieve their stress. The US government also deploys gum to soldiers and agents in the field as a a method to keep focused.
