LANGUAGE DEVELOPME NT LANGUAGE IS A PROCESS THAT IS LEARNED IN EARLY HUMAN LIFE.
2
-Language is a complex cognitive skills. -Human language is characterized by a complex organization. -Approx 4,000 Human Language is grouped into about 50 language families. -All these languages share a basic structure, involving a set of sounds and rules for combining sounds to produce meanings. -Infant starts without language, yet by 10 months of age, babies can distinguish speech sounds and engage in babbling.
3
-Each language have grammar and phonological rules which indicates how phonemes can be combined to produce speech sounds. Phonemes are combined together to create morphemes-then it progresses into phrases, then it forms sentences also refer to syntactical rules. -Phonemes: is the smallest unit of sound that is recognizable as speech rather than as random noises and makes understandable words. For ex: /t/ sound in the words tip, stand, water, cat. -Morphemes: are smallest meaningful unit of languages-conveys meaning. For ex: work-ing or like-ly are 2 morpheme, has meaning. -Syntactical rules: rules used to describe how things are organized or ordered.

All languages have grammar rules that generally fall in 2 categories: 1. Morphological rules indicates how morphemes can be combined to form words. They are refer to things and events. For ex: CAT, DOG, BIRD, CAR, etc. -content morpheme Then there’s words like WHEN, AND, OR, BUT which are function morpheme that ties sentence together. 2.Syntactical rule indicates how words can be combined to form a sentence.

Here’s an example of sentence structure: Example: Th e b o i h i t th e b o l Morpheme: The-boy-hit-the-ball. Turns into phrase: The-boy hit-the-ball. Sentence: The boy hit the ball.
