National Security Protecting U.S. territory, citizens, and allies. Maintaining military bases at home and abroad to discourage attacks by foreign country’s War on Terror MAD ( mutual assured destruction) limiting nuclear weapons.

Economic Growth Promoting free trade and ensuring American industries access to raw materials. NAFTA, CAFTA, etc. Working with other nation’s usually through the WTO to lower trade barriers and secure favorable trade deals.

World Peace Settling conflicts and using American military resources to promote and keep peace between nations. Using political, economic, and military pressure to end conflicts and prevent them from happening. Work with the U.N (United Nations) to settle conflicts.

Promoting Democracy Promoting the development of new democracies and protecting democracy around the globe. Lending other democracies material resources and sometimes military might to ensure development and existence. Operations in Iraq, helping Great Britain and France during WWI and WWII

Human Rights Seeking humane treatment for people all over the world. Distributing foreign aid to countries in need, negotiating with trading partners to ensure human rights reform, and applying political pressure to bring about improved conditions. Ex. Aid to Haiti, Japan, and Indonesia after Natural disasters. Pressuring China to end child labor.
