What is Title 1?  Title 1 is a federal program that is a part of No Child Left Behind that supports programs in schools and school districts to improve the learning of children from low-income families. 4. Title 1 Part A Requirements  Title 1 and NCLB specifically require that Local Educational Agencies (LEA’s) conduct an annual meeting to explain the Title 1 requirements and the rights of parents to be involved. It also requires that communication be in an understandable format for ALL parents. 3 3/21/2016

What is Parental Involvement?  Under Title 1, Parental involvement is defined as the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring that Parents play an integral role in their child’s learning Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school Parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child Other activities are carried out. 4 3/21/2016

Build a Bridge of Communication  Maintain regular communication with your child’s teacher to ensure that your child is performing well academically, as well as socially.  Visit your child’s school for reasons other than for “Conflict Resolution.”  Be supportive of teachers and school activities 7 3/21/2016
