11:56 Stable beams  7-8 e29 cm-2s-1 peak at start Losses  beam – two dips plus emittance blow-up  Substantial drop in luminosity 16:15 Thunderstorm  5 sectors tripped  Access for QPS and BLM in shadow of recovery 21:00 Machine back but AFS problem  unable to start applications (anywhere in CCC – PS & SPS etc) Tuesday 29th

Report on why the IT problems with AFS caused problems for CCC operation tonight between 21:30 and 23:50: it appears that only one machine really had AFS problems, CS-CCR-WWW1 (= ABWWW), the main web server for starting CCC applications.  This was because a cron scheduled job had been setup to frequently copy Hardware Commissioning Cryo web pages to an AFS home directory. Every minute a new cron daemon blocked on the AFS write and eventually the machine ran out of memory and was unable to serve web requests for the operators. At 23:50 A. Bland rebooted CS-CCR-WWW1 and from then on the operators could start programs. To be followed up AFS problems – knock-on 25-6-2010 3b collisions

24:00 SPS MPS problems RQ6.L7B1 tripped due to fan (19 A) – restart pre-cycle SPS again until 05:00 Hyper fast injection Beam 2 losses (15%) on ramp at around 1.5 – 1.7 TeV  chromaticity?  plus blow-up 8:10 – colliding beams - rocky Wednesday 30 th June 25-6-2010 3b collisions

Crossing angle 3b collisions 25-6-2010

Double dip 3b collisions 25-6-2010

and associated blow-up 3b collisions 25-6-2010

Keep this one until early afternoon End of fill studies – Alice & wire scanners Ramp down & pre-cycle BLM response at injection Prepare for 6x6 1e11 per beam.. Program 25-6-2010 3b collisions
