3  The Scottish came from Scotland from the continent Europe. The Scottish first came to NZ During the mid and late 1800s a large number of Scottish migrants settled in New Zealand, especially in the South Island provinces of Otago and Southland. Dunedin (from Dunedin, the old Celtic name for Edinburgh) is the capital of Otago. It was designed as a city for members of the Free Church of Scotland, which broke away from the Church of Scotland in 1843. The Scottish architecture can be seen through out NZ.

4  There are 12,792 Scottish people in NZ. This is the exact number from January 2011. Most of them live in the South Island. Especially towards North Otago. There is also some famous Scottish people that resided in NZ:  Janet Frame  William Cargill  John Barr  Norman McLeod  Elizabeth Yates  Alistair Campbell  James Kier Baxter  Winston Peters  Kate Shepherd,  George Smith Duncan  Elizabeth Grace

5 The Scottish came to NZ because, they were seeking opportunities of various forms of economic opportunities. They also wanted to get away from the country because of violence and because of how New Zealand has a good education system and a desired lifestyle. Also, because they wanted to bring some of the Scottish traditions and foods over; such as whisky, rugby, porridge, bagpipe bands and of course kilts.

6  Everyone loves a good old celebration especially the the Scots. In fact the Scottish celebrate so many things that I couldn’t fit them on this slide so I have printed them out and you can have a look at them if you wish.

7  The Scottish brought many things to NZ. They are the following: Whisky, porridge, rugby, kilts, tartan, bagpipes, bagpipe bands, black pudding, haggis, deep fried mars bar, thistle, short bread, kipper, heather. These are just some of the things that the Scottish brought over, that my dad and I could think of.
