INTRODUCING THE REDD DESK

A Standalone, non- partisan, multi- language online platform focused on sharing REDD+ resources, identifying REDD Readiness best practice, and facilitating collaboration.

THE NEED There are growing information needs among REDD communities worldwide but the volume of information is a major barrier to understanding. As tropical forest nations advance in their national REDD readiness, accessibility, transparency and utility of information need to be key components of effective stakeholder engagement.

OFFERINGS ON THE REDD DESK A central platform for REDD+ information which enables diverse stakeholders to pool effort in building a common resource, and to easily extract information A nationally-focused resource that helps facilitate REDD readiness and implementation by organising all relevant country information, from national plans to individual projects. An online networking tool to connect REDD+ stakeholders within and across countries.

NATIONAL REDD KMPS As governments build their national REDD strategies, the need for national REDD knowledge management platforms (KMPs) will become increasingly important. Through the experience we have gained with theREDDdesk.org we are offering support to governments seeking to create their own REDD KMPs.

WHO DOES IT REACH? The REDD desk has a broad geographic audience from over 100 countries. The most visited content within the REDD desk is the REDD countries database (43%) and the Resource Library (17%). Translated content was also widely visited (6% of total traffic) with most users reading Spanish content. Prior to the launch of the REDD Countries Database the readership of the REDD desk was around 3,000 visits per month and currently we have a readership of over 10,000 visits per month

NEXT STEPS? Full coverage of 14 countries by COP17 Doubling country coverage in 2012 + updating existing countries Coordination with other initiatives – Harmonise data structures – Data-sharing Launch the REDD Community Pilot and implement Knowledge Management Platforms
