What is a Zentangle? Zentangles are relaxing, miniature* pieces of unplanned line art created in very structured, repetitive patterns. *Usually a 3 1/2 ” by 3 1/2 ” square

What is a tangle? Structured abstract non-objective patterns created with at most 2 or 3 simple repeating strokes drawn with a fine tip black pen.

Difference between a Zentangle and Doodling... Zentangle -is a form of artistic meditation -produce non-objective drawings -contain no recognizable objects -has no “right side up” -composed of composed of patterns (tangles). -very focused and mindful Doodling is generally something you do with your hands while your thoughts are occupied with something else. ART VOCABULARY!!!! Geometric Shape- consistent shapes such as circles, squares, rectangle, ovals, and triangles. Organic Shape- free-form shapes are usually unpredictable and flowing in appearance. Visually suggest the natural world of animals, plants, sky, and the sea. Shading- using a value pencil to add depth and dimension to a tangle pattern. Zentangle VOCABULARY!!!! String- The free-form penciled line drawn within the tile’s border, within which one adds tangle patterns to create a Zentangle. Tangle Pattern (Tangle)- Structured, abstract, non-objective patterns created with at most 2 or 3 simple repeating strokes drawn with a fine tip black pen. Monotangle- A completed Zentangle composed entirely of a single tangle. String- The free-form penciled line drawn within the tile’s border, within which one adds tangle patterns to create a Zentangle.
