4. Word Study 2nd graders will be working with small groups of 4-5 students in order to develop their reading and writing ability. Students will be grouped according to their spelling stage, and receive instruction that focuses on knowledge about words he/she has not yet learned. The goal is for students to understand how "words work" and learn how to demonstrate patterns and rules in words. Students will receive the same 12, second grade spelling words, but will receive 3 extra words that match their specific spelling stage. word studyword study

6. Reader’s Workshop Reader's workshop allows teachers to explicitly teach students strategies that will allow them to become more skillful and comprehending text. The workshop model is made up of 3 components: 1. Mini lesson 2. Independent Reading 3. Closing Reader's workshop

7. Writer’s Workshop Similar to Reader's workshop, Writer's Workshop is a framework for writing instruction that builds on each child's writing abilities.
