Table Features Let’s take a look in the Word Manual, page R8B & 13A (lesson 76). Table Features Question: o The directions for table 76-26, page 303 in your textbook, ask you to set the text direction to display vertically from bottom to top, as well as to change the alignment to bottom center (step 1). o How do you center a table horizontally and vertically? Table Features Answer: To center a table horizontally: o Right-click on the table, and select Table Properties. o On the Table tab, click on Center Alignment to align the table horizontally.

Table Features Answer: To center a table vertically: o On the Page Layout ribbon, click the Page Setup launcher (arrow at bottom right) o On the Layout tab, click the drop down arrow in the Page, ‘Vertical alignment’ section. o Select Center o Click OK

Table 76-26 Please remember: Column headings should display in one continuous line without wrapping All table that appear on a page by themselves should be aligned both vertically and horizontally. Type the column headings to display vertically, from bottom to top. Table 76-27 Be sure that 25% shading is applied to Row 1.

Text Direction Quick question… o How do you change the direction of table text from horizontal to vertical? Please type your answer now. You may describe 2003, 2007, or 2010. Please indicate which version you are describing.

Answer In Microsoft Word 2007: o Click to select the table cell o On the menu bar: Click Format Text Direction Click the vertical alignment, bottom to top Click OK

Orientation Some tables lend themselves to a landscape orientation rather than portrait. o Portrait: vertical orientation o Landscape: horizontal orientation See pages 308-310 for more samples.

Auto Formatting In Word 2003, you could create tables using the auto formatting: o Pre-set table designs found in Word. o Its a time saver, can also be modified, and a new format created based on the changes. o Where do you find this feature in Word 2007?

Auto Formatting In Word 2007, auto format has changed to “Table Styles”: o After you insert a table, the Table Tools Ribbon displays, and Table Styles is found there. o You can modify any of the existing table styles or create a new table style.

Capitalizing Compass Points Compass points are capitalized only when they designate a specific area. They drove north toward the Northeast United States. The word “north” is a general direction and is not capitalized. The word “Northeast” is a specific area of the united states and is capitalized.

Let’s try a little exercise… Look on page 306, sentences 4-11. Edit the sentences if necessary, to correct any errors in capitalization. o For example: 4 – Correct, 5 – Northwest, 6- Correct, etc… o If a sentence is correct, just list C or Correct for you answer.

Social Networking Sites Employers tend to look for: o Pictures o Language (foul and grammar usage) o Screen names o What you write about your current or past employment. This is evident each time we view Facebook

Week Five – What’s Due? In Week Five, you have 3 things to complete: o Seminar o Mid-Term Timed Writing – Skills Assessment in Part 4 – the 5-minute timed writing. This is located in the textbook on p. 320 o Mid-Term Exam

Week 6 overview Demonstrate proper use of medical terminology and formatting of medical documents. Expand your proofreading techniques to include electronic aids, and describe the potential pitfalls of using such aids. Include accuracy in one’s typing goals.

What is due Week 6? Timed Writing. Should type at least 47-48 wpm (adjusted to 43-44 wpm). SB6 page SB31. Proofreading Assignment: Lesson 95- 69 (page 388) In 10E, proofreading check was a memo, in 11e it is a business report. 95-69 is the only proofreading check in the Medical Documents section Seminar or Seminar option 2.
