8M8’S SOCIAL SPORT 8M8’S (8 Mates) is a social event designed to attract students that do not regularly participate in sport. Students are not allowed to participate in social sport if they are in a competitive code during that term. The sports played are modified sports and played in the spirit of sportsmanship rather than competition. The selected sports vary per term. A gold coin donation is required to cover umpires needed. However there are no season fees and no uniforms due to the support of Sport Waitakere who run the programme for our local schools. St Dominic’s College will be the venue for Term 2 with other local schools and venues within walking distance taking their turns at later dates. Several local schools combine to make this programme a big success where sport is about physical activity and fun! 8M8’S is also supported by other sponsors and by The Edge radio station

YEAR 7 AND 8 SPORT Most Year 7 and 8 Sports are focused on the second half of the year. While there are mainly one day tournaments and qualifying zones for all sporting codes we are sometimes limited to attendance due to being part of a senior school. The exceptions to the one day tournaments are Netball and Orienteering where we are able to offer full season attendance for all year 7’s and 8’s
27
TRIALS Netball and Football are our main sporting codes at St Dominic’s College. All trials are to be based on a fair and unbiased selection process. Three selectors will make up the panel with two highly respected representatives of the sporting code and one internal representative of the school. Their decision will be respected by all. Preliminary teams will be chosen and finalised before the end of term 1. If changes are necessary, consultation will be made with each selection panel.

NEW POSITION – REPORTING OFFICER required KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE! 2011 was a particularly hard year to be able to deter bad side-line behaviour. In the spirit of keeping our girls safe we are now introducing a mandatory position of Reporting Officer who must be an adult that will accompany that team every week. Their duties are to report to the umpires room immediately at the sign of trouble and to report to Ms McPherson weekly whether good or bad. This is a serious position that cannot be ignored and if it cannot be filled then the team may not be able to compete.
