2 INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION The Fiji Sports Council is a statutory body established under an act of Parliament to perform the following functions: The Fiji Sports Council is a statutory body established under an act of Parliament to perform the following functions: 1. Foster and promote the development of sports and recreation in Fiji 2. Foster support and undertake the provision of facilities for sport and recreation 3. Promote the utilization of sporting and recreational facilities in Fiji 4. Investigate developments in sport and recreation and disseminate knowledge and information about such developments 5. Advise the Minister on any matters relating to sport and recreation. The building and managing maintenance of sporting facilities has been the primary function of the Council. The Fiji Sports Council now boasts assets worth approximately $58M and is mandated to manage these facilities in such a way as to be self-sufficient. 12 National Gymnasium: National Gymnasium: With its indoor courts it is used for a variety of indoor sporting activities. A number of regional sporting events such as netball tournaments, badminton tournaments, indoor football, boxing, weight lifting.

16 National Aquatic Centre National Aquatic Centre With its 50 meter competition pool and a 25 meter warm up pool – it is equipped for local competitions. It is patronized on daily basis by swimming clubs and casual swimmers.

17 NATIONAL NETBALL CENTRE The National Netball Centre The National Netball Centre After the 2003 SPG the venue has been dormant for a number of years due to its unplayable courts as shown on the first photo. All four courts have now been completely upgraded and a mini-spectator stand constructed. Netball Associations are now fully utilizing the venue.

18 National Beach Volleyball Centre The National Beach Volley Centre: Located adjacent to the National Netball Centre, the two courts have also been, of recent, re- filled with sand..

19 NATIONAL HOCKEY CENTRE The National Hockey Centre. With its world-class playing turf, the venue is constantly patronized by the sport of hockey for local and oceania competitions.

20 LAWAQA PARK Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka. Features a grandstand that can seat up to 3500 spectators and a cultivated grass embankment that caters or an additional 8000 spectators, and a 400-meters grass track.

21 VEI-VADRA-VADRA LAND, SIGATOKA PROPOSED YOUTH SPORTS DEVELOPMENT CAMP.

22 THOMSON PARK Thomson Park, Navua SERVING NAMOSI AND SERUA.

23 RA SPORTS GROUND Ra Sports Ground This is the main sporting facility for the new town of Rakiraki. This facility consists of Rugby and Soccer Pitches as well as grass netball courts.

24 VICTORIA COURTS Victoria Courts Its central location makes it easily accessible to the public. The five courts have Astro grass surfaces. Two squash courts with glass backed doors. Other sports e.g. soccer also use the facility.

25 REGIONAL TENNIS COURT Lautoka Tennis Court The venue is the main training area for tennis in Fiji and the Pacific.
