Product description Back to contents page

Ruukki offers a sandwich panel system, which combines an attractive appearance with excellent thermal insulation and fire resistance The panels are lightweight and pre-fabricated, which means that construction is faster and more cost- effective Product description

Ruukki can be a partner in a project from the earliest design stages through to installation, as required Tried and tested structural solutions coupled with the support of our experts can speed up design and construction Product description

The Sandwich panel SPA consists of profiled sheet metal with mineral wool lamella core The core and the panel facings are joined together with an adhesive bond The panels are assembled together with tongue and groove joints (the sheets and the core) Product description - structure

The structural, light weight sandwich panel consists of: Steel sheet + PVDF or Steel sheet + polyester Stainless steel and acid-resistant steel Maximum length: 12000 mm Choice of coating: –Polyester / Polyester; Polyester / PVDF; PVDF / PVDF –PVDF Matt also available Product description - structure

PVDF Matt flashing Product description – structure The new PVDF Matt coating is available as a standard colour in sandwich panels, metallic colours RR40 and RR41 The coating gives a smooth and dignified appearance for the wall The new PVDF Matt coating is not as sensitive to scratching as the ordinary PVDF coating

The panels are assembled together with tongue and groove joints (the sheets and the core) Product description - structure

The fibres of mineral wool lamellas are oriented lengthwise along the panel with the fibres perpendicular to the panel facings The mineral wool lamellas are positioned in a gradual manner Panel derives its load- bearing capacity from the composite structure Product description - structure

The adjacent picture shows the principle how panel wall is created Notice that there is always a joint seal in the panel groove that will stay outside Also it is possible to add a joint seal to inside groove also (for example, if the panels go to seaside etc.) Product description - structure

There are eight different thickness classes and four different sandwich panel types 80, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, 230 and 260 mm External walls: E Internal walls: I Fire structures: F Strong structures: S Product description - structure SPA175E SPA100I SPA150F SPA200S The letter “E” means that this wall type is suitable for external applications U-values are better than for example in “I”-panels The letter “I” means that this wall type is suitable for internal walls They are light weight, and have good airborne sound insulation The letter “F” means that this wall type is suitable for walls that need special fire resistance Not that good U-values, but great fire resistance The letter “S” means that this wall type is suitable for walls that requires special strength For example compartmenting ceiling or long span / heavy wind load external wall

Application Back to contents page

The panel system is used in facades, partition walls, ceilings and compartmenting structures The panels are categorized in four different groups each of which has their own special application It is important to use the right panel to right place – it is cost efficient and practical Sandwich panel SPA - application

Typical applications –Industrial buildings –Air-conditioning and ventilation structures –Agricultural buildings –Construction for the food industry and clean rooms –Logistics centres –Power plants –Office and commercial buildings –Sports facilities Sandwich panel SPA - application

PVDF coating is recommended for the exterior sheet of the lightweight sandwich panels Polyester coating is the best option for the interior sheet, but can also be used for the exterior sheet PVDF coating is recommended for normal exterior use. It is highly resistant to UV radiation and dirt PVDF is recommended for uses where excellent colour and gloss durability and dirt resistance are needed Sandwich panel SPA - application

PVDF HB is a thicker than normal coating It is recommended for use in environmental conditions where excellent corrosion resistance is important, such as marine and industrial environments Sandwich panel SPA - application

Polyester coating can be used both on interior and exterior sheets Its colour durability and corrosion resistance are good In the food industry, polyester can be used if it is not in direct contact with food More information about coatings: –Go to Ruukki Academy site and find the raw materials and coatings presentation Sandwich panel SPA - application

Design Back to contents page

Sandwich panel SPA - application With SPA Panels you can meet the new U-value regulations that became effective on January 2010 Notice, that there are several possibilities to meet the regulations in case of semi-warm building (a building that is not meant for constant living, temperature +5 - +17 o C on heating period) The panel U-values are presented later on this presentation

As the title describes, external wall panels are to be used as an external walls Good characteristics in terms of U-value The bolded panel models are so called “standard range” – most often used Panel types – External

As the title describes, internal wall panels are to be used as an internal walls, partition walls, compartmentation walls etc. Good characteristics in terms of light weight and handling property The bolded panel models are so called “standard range” – most often used Panel types– Internal

As the title describes, fire resistant wall panels are to be used as a structure, which requires special fire resistance Good characteristics in terms of fire resistance The bolded panel models are so called “standard range” – most often used Panel types – Fire structures

As the title describes, fire resistant wall panels are to be used as a structure, which requires special strength (long spans, heavy wind loads…) Good characteristics in terms of strength The bolded panel models are so called “standard range” – most often used Panel types – Strong structures

The fire technical properties of the panels have been tested with regard to fire resistance and properties of the materials The fire class of the panels is A2-s1, d0 (coatings PVDF and Polyester) With panel type S it is possible to build EI240 wall constructions and light-weight EI-M firewall structures up to EI-M 120 –M = Mechanical durability under fire Sandwich Panels – Fire resistance

In compartmenting structures, the panel and its fastenings need to be dimensioned, at least, for the variable 0.3kN/m 2 load Panels shall not, length- or widthwise, extend from one fire compartment to another In fires the panels act as a catenary structure. The fastening and dimensioning shall be done according to instructions If the applications have certain fire resistance requirements, the maximum allowed spans shall be equal or less to those in the following tables, at most Sandwich Panels – Fire resistance

Maximum spans and fire resistance for External wall panels The first number stands for horizontal installation and the following one for vertical installation The empty slots mean that the one in question is not available Sandwich Panels – Fire resistance
