Appetizer A food made to stimulate a diner’s taste buds. Can also be called an hors D’oeuvres

Often accompanies the dryness of alcoholic beverages Moderates the hunger that goes with beverages Foods too rich can be served in smaller quantities Foods too pronounced in taste can be served in smaller quantities Should complement main dish being served Should consider guests and their tastes

Types of popular appetizers Canapé-filling on top of crackers or small bread pieces Dips served with various chips-Salsa, guacamole, onion dip, ranch dressing Baked potato skins Hot crab on top of crackers Roasted nuts, could be mixed with mints Cheese and cracker plates
