Going Green with rapeseed oil | BCCD-BIU "On the way home" meeting, Århus | 10-27-2008Page5 GoGreen is a three-pronged approach The GoGreen Program - 2 New technologies, e.g. new air fleet, aerodynamics Energy efficiency in buildings, e.g. lighting, insulation Research projects aimed at developing efficient transport, e.g. alternative technology, use cleaner fuels (rapeseed oil) Awareness among staff GOGREEN products and services: External offsetting, e.g.: -Reforestation -Solar energy projects around the world DHL measures and assesses its carbon emissions with its advanced Carbon Accounting DHL reports regularly on its carbon emissions Offset C Internal Measures Measures for Customers Assess Reduce A B Assessing emissions Reducing emissions Offsetting emissions

Going Green with rapeseed oil | BCCD-BIU "On the way home" meeting, Århus | 10-27-2008Page8 Rapeseed oil - introduction Alphabet soup SVO - straight vegetable oil used as diesel fuel (usually new oil, fresh, uncooked) – includes cold pressed rapeseed oil PPO - pure plant oils, same as SVO: PPO is the term most often used in Europe WVO - waste vegetable oil (used cooking oil, "grease", fryer oil, including animal fats or fish oils from the cooking) UCO - used cooking oil (same as above) RME – rapeseed methyl ester, a chemically modified form of rapeseed oil, also known (together with other modified plant oils) as biodiesel Brassica napus

Going Green with rapeseed oil | BCCD-BIU "On the way home" meeting, Århus | 10-27-2008Page10 Practical implementation Lessons learned – so far: 1.Higher viscosity of rapeseed oil 2.Vehicle operation – the 10 minute rule 3.Engine maintenance 4.Driver training 5.CO 2 reduction 6.Infrastructure nonexistent (Source: G Labeckas, S Slavinskas, "Performance and exhaust emissions of direct- injection diesel engine operating on rapeseed oil and its blends with diesel fuel", TRANSPORT, Vol. XX, No. 5, pp. 186-194 (2005) The effect of temperature on the viscosity of various rapeseed oil and diesel fuel blends

Going Green with rapeseed oil | BCCD-BIU "On the way home" meeting, Århus | 10-27-2008Page17 BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY – OFFSETTING Idea The carbon emissions caused by sending and delivering parcels are neutralized by climate protection measures Pick-up Delivery Billing Shipment follows normal procedure, no special handling Linehaul (Air, Road) Terminal handling Terminal handling A carbon neutral Shipment An annual certificate will be given to each customer The DP Carbon Management function is responsible for acquiring and generating sufficient CO 2 credits from the different external carbon - reduction projects to offset the CO 2 emissions Carbon calculation starts post-transportation DHL calculates the CO 2 emissions generated by the customer’s shipment as the first step in offsetting them. Extracted transport data is processed with emission parameters Carbon Management guarantees carbon offset Pick-up- Delivery Billing Shipment follows normal procedure, no special handling (Air, Road) Terminal handling - Carbon calculation starts post-transportation Carbon Management guarantees carbon offset Customers have the option to reduce their own carbon footprint. Offsetting – General Approach C EXPRESS EXAMPLE
