HABITAT o The rafflesia live mostly in the parts of subtrpical/tropical moist lowlands of South East Asia or in the Philippines REPRODUCTION AND GESTATION o Flies will pollinate the flower the same way bees do and wild animals will disperse the seeds Rafflesia

DIET o Water and Nutrients off it’s host plant HOW DOES IT FIT IN THE FOOD CHAIN? o It feeds off of it’s host plant and small rodents will eat the plant’s seeds Rafflesia Magnifica

o The Rafflesia is a first level consumer -it feeds off the nutrients of other plants o Animals eat it’s seeds Rafflesia

BIOTIC FACTOR o It is a living part of its ecosystem Rafflesia Magnifica

THREATS o The widespread habitat destruction within much of rain forested area of South East Asia o Slash and burn farming Rafflesia Magnifica

ABILITY TO ADAPT o It produces a rotting meat smell to attract flies to help pollinate the flower Rafflesia Magnifica

WHY IS IT A BUTTERFLY SPECIES? o The Rafflesia is a butterfly species because its life cycle is similar to the butterfly's ( starting from its cocoon) starts in a hard shell– then starts to bloom– then the petals get big and colorful like a butterfly’s Rafflesia

These flower buds have a high level of death and only 10% to 18%go on to bloom, but only lasting a few days The flowers diameter can lead up to 3 feet long The white pattern on the reddish pedals of the Rafflesia are not patterns but warts FUN FACTS
