Role of Traditional Medicine in Myanmar Traditional medicine is the first medical system that the people in Myanmar especially in rural areas turn to for disease treatment from its less expensive and accessible treatment. Medicinal plants are important and useful forest resources in Myanmar. Aug/9/20142

About 80% of formularies are from plant origin. There are about 1,000 private traditional medicine manufactures in Myanmar. They need stable supply of good quality products. Aug/9/20143

General Characteristics and Challenges Increase market demand – subsistence needs may face a decline in supply. Many non-timber forest products are still collected from the wild largely – could causes resource decline.
